Well, I could not possibly say for certain just yet Brother, I have not read any of them.

However it does seem like something Sif could have dreamed up. I have always thought it was incredibly unfair to the other maidens of the kingdom, that she is blessed with such intelligence when she is already so mighty and so beautiful.

[Loki closes his eyes and takes a deep breath in through his nose, before opening them and speaking in a deliberately controlled voice]

And yet, with all her skills, she lacks the common courtesy of asking before involving me in plans that have nothing to do with myself.

That is, of course, dependent on whether she had any say in this plan; although this could apply to all of your friends regardless - my opinions rarely count for anything where they are concerned.

Now don’t say such things Loki! [He claps a hand on Loki’s back, face incredulous.]

Are my friends not civil to you when I bring you into our plans? Do they not treat you with respect? You forget, dear Brother, it is highly unusual for one to share so much of his free time with his brother instead of his friends…

Ah wonderful!

I had assumed father was delivering empty threats when he said he would stop my friends from contacting me, but apparently he does possess the power to do such things.

[He begins idly looking through the letters, unaware of Loki’s annoyance.]

[Loki is silent for a moment, a look of pure incredulation upon his face]

… I should have known.

[He huffs out a resigned breath and turns his gaze away from the table for a second, irritation evident in the tense lines of his body]

image

I should have known that this would have something to do with Father’s punishment.

[He turns abruptly back to stare at Thor, glaring daggers into the back of his brother’s head]

Who’s brilliant idea was it to forward the letters onto me instead?

[Thor continues to rummage through the pile with one hand, clueless as the other hand stuffs a bread roll into his mouth.]

Loki, you know my breakfast is not to be interrupted…

I am sorry for interrupting your breakfast, brother, but it is no more than I have been interrupted every time a damn letter addressed to you arrives at my table.

[He slams down a fistful of letters into the only empty space between plates piled full of food surrounding Thor]

Would you care to explain why these are all clearly addressed to you, and yet they end up being delivered to me?

Ah wonderful!

Thor’s eyes darted around the console room a few more times, alight with curiosity. He didn’t really have to think about his answer for very long, just squish the tiny, warning, Odin-like voice at the back of his head that told him to think before acting. There was something about Ten that made Thor just trust him implicitly… Or perhaps that was just Thor.

“I should very much like to test whether your contraption lives up to its name,” he said with a decisive nod, “Go forth, my friend!”

“Brilliant!” Ten laughed and grabbed one of the levers. “Thor, if you can just press that button there- yes, that’s the one, and the one directly to the left.” All the while he was throwing levers and spinning dials. “Hold onto something, sometimes the ride can be a bit bumpy.” He threw the last lever and the TARDIS started moving, jolting back and forth a bit before landing.

Ten took his hands off the levers and grinned. “Here we are- we should have landed around an hour after I came here the first time, so we’ll get the same information.” He gestured to the door. “Outside is the aftermath of the giant wars.”

Thor pushed the buttons as instructed, but scoffed when he was told to hold onto something. He looked around, incredulous, and assumed that with the size of the thing, it was unlikely he would feel any bumps the machine encountered.

He couldn’t have been more wrong however, and when the TARDIS started moving his smug smile was wiped off his face. Thor flew backwards, stumbling over his own feet and only just staying upright. He eventually managed to steady himself on a railing he felt behind him and instantly smiled again… Only to be jolted once more before they finally landed.

Looking around, just a touch disorientated, he took a moment to allow his breathing to normalise.

“I… was not expecting that,” Thor admitted, a sheepish grin on his face. He raised his eyebrows at Ten, eyes already wide with surprise as it was, and smiled even more, “Is it safe to venture outside?”

Brother, we need to talk.

Thor’s eyes lit up as he listened to Ten’s explanations and he found himself subconsciously following the boy around in a circle of the console. There was something about the excitement there that Thor found infectious and he was more and more intrigued, the more he was told.

“So you simply travel to the events in question and write your essays from that perspective?” he grinned at the other boy a moment, before letting out a huge guffaw of laughter without any warning, “I imagine you must know at least twice as much as the professor does… But what evidence do you give for what you write? Surely there are facts you must discover that it should be impossible to know.”

“Yes, usually,” Ten laughed. “I use a few books, but sometimes you don’t need them. And I certainly know more than Binns does.”

Ten shrugged. “Well, we’re never asked to cite sources really, and I’ve noticed he barely marks them; so I just give a few numbers in the essay and that’s worked so far.”

He put his hand on one of the levers and grinned at Thor. “So, do you want to head back and explore the giant wars? It’ll only take five minutes. Here, anyways.”

Thor took very slow steps towards the open door, peering into the TARDIS with mistrust. He frowned and pulled his head back out of the doorway again so he could do a full circuit of the box… only to realise that the strange object was somehow miles bigger on the inside than the outside.

He strode once more to the door and this time actually stepped inside. Thor’s eyes widened in awe, a grin on his face, as he began to take the entirety of the “box” in. He laughed in delight, both to himself and to Ten when he turned around and caught the boy’s eye. He reached the central console of the room he’d somehow just stepped into and ran his fingers lightly over the various levers and buttons for a moment. Thor wondered if there was anything else in the world he had ever seen quite as strange as this. It certainly seemed unlikely.

It was with a curious and confused squint that Thor looked back up at Ten, patting the strange console.

“It is both a mesmerising contraption,” he murmured, feeling almost kind of small in the midst of this crazy phenomenon, “And a complete mystery to me. Tell me, how does it come to occupy so little a space?”

“Undetectable Extension Charm,” said Ten with a grin, heading inside the TARDIS himself. “Of course, that’s not the only spell. The TARDIS uses a mass of spells and enchantments, mixed with a bit of science and logic to make her work.” He paused for a second, considering a way to explain.

“It’s like a really big time-turner. But it’s not just time, but space as well.” He ran a hand along the console and grinned wider. Without letting Thor respond he starting talking again.

“See, the thing about History of Magic is that they never teach you anything important. You get numbers, and facts, and hard data- which is all very good, but then they ask you to write an essay on how the war affected the giants. And considering no one pays attention in class anyways, everyone ends up getting books out, all of which tell you more of less the same thing.” Ten walked around as he said this, looking at screen and going over console levers. “But if you had a way to take a look, a fresh perspective that no one has anymore, it’s so much more interesting.”

Thor’s eyes lit up as he listened to Ten’s explanations and he found himself subconsciously following the boy around in a circle of the console. There was something about the excitement there that Thor found infectious and he was more and more intrigued, the more he was told.

Thor liked to think he was pretty fast when he needed to be; certainly in the heat of a battle, he could think on his feet and make snap decisions. But at school he never really was on his guard like that and so when other students started rushing off up the stairs, expecting him to follow, his reaction was pretty slow.

He did manage to keep up with the other boy though and when they finally reached their destination, he was only a few steps behind. He frowned instantly. Surely Ten was referring to something just out of sight that Thor had missed, or perhaps the small, unassuming box was housing something - a bookcase perhaps?

Thor cleared his throat before he spoke. “And what exactly is this TARDIS?”

Ten grinned at the question, grabbing the handles on the door. “Why don’t you see for yourself?” he asked, then pushed the doors open and stepped out of the way. “Take a look.”

I think we should have an Avengers thread - maybe like a new club that gets started? (I’d do that myself, but it’s not really IC for Thor I don’t think… IF ONLY WE HAD A CAP)
